04-16-21 Child Nutrition Update to Families

April 16, 2021

Dear Williamsville Central School District Families,

As we continue to move forward with the Plan to Pivot, we wanted to highlight and ensure families have important information regarding meals.  These items were shared in the District’s Plan to Pivot, are available on the District’s website, and in compliance with the updated school guidance from the New York State Department of Health.

Please be sure to review this information and contact your school’s cafeteria manager if you have any questions.

IMPORTANT- ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN SCHOOL INFORMATION

Beginning April 26th breakfast will be encouraged to be consumed at home prior to leaving for school. April 21st our four pick-up locations, North, South, East, and Transit, will have a three-day breakfast pack available.

Beginning April 28th, a five-day breakfast pack will be available weekly. This will be a selection added to the Google Doc order form on WITS for elementary only. Families must sign up weekly to participate. Names will be taken at pick up locations. If a parent’s child (ren) are not able to pick-up breakfast food, please contact your school’s child nutrition department’s cafeteria manager. They will work with parents to develop a plan that provides breakfast food for their child (ren).

NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (FOOD CONSUMPTION GUIDELINES)

The transition to the breakfast ordering plan is necessary due to the fact that the NYS Department of Health guidance continues to require six feet between students when eating food. The revised classroom seating plans (3 feet) no longer meets this requirement. Allowing students to eat their breakfast at home may also positively affect the possibility of lost instructional time that could occur if students were to eat breakfast in the school in non-classroom locations as well as if they arrive late in school due to bussing delays that are also caused by social distancing requirements.

ALL GRADE LEVELS: SUMMARY ON MEAL ORDERING PROCESS (including breakfast)

Names will be taken to ensure pre-order and this would be at our current 4 pick-up locations North, South, East and Transit. Starting April 28th, our meal pick up will be by order only. We will not be an “open” site to the community.

We will be serving the Williamsville CSD students only.

Remote, middle and HS families need to sign up weekly for 5-day breakfast and lunch pack.

Please be sure to show the e-mail confirmation at the selected pick-up site. Help keep our staff safe and remember to mask up before you pick up.

Sincerely,

Ruth Conner
