Welcome to the weekly update!

I want to begin by sharing a quick update regarding transportation and the ability to track our school buses using the MyStop App.   New GPS trackers have been ordered however, supply chain issues have caused delays.  20 trackers have already been delivered to the District and will be installed by the supplier in the coming weeks.  We know how important it is for parents and caregivers to track the buses in the mornings and afternoons, and we are working diligently to get the systems replaced and working properly.

On Wednesday, the District shared information regarding the upcoming Digital Resource Survey, which was formerly called the Digital Equity Survey.  The New York State Education Department is collecting information regarding internet access and digital devices used in the home for education with the goal of gaining a better understanding of digital equity across the state and how to better serve students and families.

The Digital Resource Survey will be open and available for families to complete beginning on Tuesday, November 1st on WITS.   If you filled out this survey last year, when you access the survey this year, you will be able to see your previous responses. Thank you for your partnership in completing this survey!

It’s been more than a month since we started the Superintendent Q&A segment, and I want to encourage our students, families, teachers, and staff to send questions they have to contact@williamsvillek12.org to be answered in the weekly update.  We’ve had several great questions come through including topics on school start times and Chromebook loaner programs available within our high schools.  We look forward to answering more of your questions and continuing our commitment to transparency in the District.

Next month is Native American Heritage Month.  We can’t wait to share video projects highlighting the accomplishments and contributions of individuals like Dr. Susan La Flesche Picotte, the first Native American to receive a medical degree in the U.S., and Joseph Medicine Crow, who fulfilled the four requirements of becoming a war chief of the Crow Nation while serving in the Army during World War II.  Learn more about these incredible people throughout the month of November!

Monday is Halloween!  Be safe, smart, and have fun!  Enjoy!  We’ll see you next week!
