01-16-24 District Update

Welcome to the District update!

As a reminder, there is no school Wednesday, January 17th due to the severe weather expected to impact our region Tuesday night through Wednesday.  All Wednesday activities are also canceled. We are continuing to monitor the weather and will make a determination regarding Thursday by Wednesday evening.

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend!  As we shared prior to the Winter Recess, there is a lot on the calendar as we begin 2024!

First, during the Board of Education Meeting, we shared additional information regarding this year’s Speaker Series.  All Speaker Series events will be virtual and take place from 6:00 – 7:00 pm on Zoom.

Here is the schedule of events:

  • Tuesday, January 23rd – Understanding Your Middle-Level Child
  • Thursday, February 29th – What To Do When Your Child is Struggling in School
  • Monday, March 11th – Enhancing Student Learning Through Instructional Technology

Each event will feature presenters and a question and answer period.

The Zoom information is available on the District website and in the District and school newsletters.  It was also shared in a WITSmail last week.

Next, it’s hard to believe, but we are once again in budget season.  Our budget development process started and our goal is to continue to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged as we approach the District vote.  Please be sure to review budget information that is presented during the Board of Education Meetings. Presentations are available on BoardDocs and the District website on the budget page.  At our next Board Meeting on February 13th, we will also hold a Budget Work Session.

While the winter sports season is off to a strong start across the District, I also know many of our students and music departments are preparing for their musicals.

Williamsville South will perform “SpongeBob Square Pants” February 8th through 10th.  Williamsville North is preparing to take the stage with “Legally Blonde” March 7th through 9th, and Williamsville East will perform “Mamma Mia!” March 7th through 9th as well.  Additional arts events are shared on the District website and in the District newsletter.  Please be sure to support our student and programs -- and catch a show!

Each year, we have extraordinary students graduate from our schools.  Every two years, the Williamsville Education Foundation works to identify individuals who have graduated to honor on the Williamsville Wall of Fame.  Nominations are now being accepted through April 15th!  The induction ceremony will take place in November.  Nominees must have graduated 10 or more years ago to be considered. So, if you or someone you know has a candidate in mind, please fill out a nomination application today!  Nomination information is available on the District website.

Finally, as we’ve shared many times before, please make sure you are dressing appropriately for the weather.  We want to make sure all our students and staff, whether they walk, ride the bus, or are dropped off in the morning, are prepared for winter weather.  We know the sun can be out one minute – and then be in a blinding snowstorm the next.

Continue to work hard and have a great week!
