Possible measles exposure under investigation

On Monday, Dec. 17, the Erie County Department of Health notified the Williamsville CSD that it is investigating a possible measles exposure at Williamsville South High School that may have occurred on Friday, Dec. 14. There is not a confirmed case of measles at South but as a precaution, South parents, faculty and staff were informed about the ECDOH investigation Monday afternoon.

The school district is cooperating fully with the Health Department to help insure the health and well being of students and staff. The ECDOH released the following  public statement Monday evening:

"ECDOH is investigating a possible measles exposure at Williamsville South High School. There is currently not a confirmed case and we are simply taking precautionary measures in concert with the school to notify faculty and parents. Those who were born before 1957, those who have received two doses of the MMR vaccine and those who have tested positive for measles antibodies are considered immune. All others are always at risk of developing measles disease."

If you have any questions or concerns about potential exposure to measles, please contact your family physician.
