May 1, 2020 - COVID-19 Update to Families
May 1, 2020
Dear Williamsville Central School District Families,
Earlier today, Governor Cuomo announced all schools in New York, including the Williamsville Central School District, will be closed and will not return to regular classroom instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) global health crisis. He has indicated a decision regarding whether summer school can take place will be made by the end of this month.
I am extremely proud of our District leaders, principals, and teachers for their continued dedication during these unprecedented times. Our principals, teachers, and support staff have worked tirelessly to ensure you and your children receive the best education and resources. They will continue to provide those services through distance learning through the end of the school year. Additionally, next week we will be providing students and parents with an update regarding our grading procedures for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Our food service will continue through this time period. We have received permission for all students to be able to receive breakfast and/or lunch. We will also continue to provide childcare for students at our local YMCA for families.
As we continue to move forward, we will be sending out information regarding graduation, moving up ceremonies, and prom in the coming weeks. We will make all reasonable attempts to provide a safe, viable, and engaging alternative for these events. I know how important these educational milestones are to students and families.
Nobody could have anticipated how quickly the COVID-19 crisis would impact our daily lives. I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we’ve navigated one of the most challenging times in our country’s history.
We know how important the interactions are within our schools. The memories we make are priceless and cannot be replaced. We look forward to the smiles and laughter returning to our schools when it is safe to do so.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or your building principal with any questions you may have.
We are all in this together.
