Virtual Guidelines and Considerations for Special Education
Special Education Programing Considerations
- To the greatest extent possible, all students will receive programming, supports, and services as listed on the student’s IEP
- IEPs, at this time, are not being amended due to the COVID-19 situation
- Progress monitoring is a high priority and will be completed virtually
- Committee of Special Education Meetings will continue to be conducted remotely
- Evaluations will preferably be conducted in-person; however, may be completed virtually
- Communication with parents by special education team will be conducted at least bi-weekly or more frequently as needed via email, telephone, or video
- Student attendance will be monitored and is imperative for students to be successful at meeting their annual goals
- The following programming services will be conducted five days a week based on student’s current schedule as listed in WITS. Access to the virtual instruction log-in information is available here (hyper link)
- Integrated Co-Taught Consultant Teachers (Direct)
- Self-Contained School Based - Individual Core (ELA/Math)
- Resource
- Instructional Support
Please note for the students currently attending the Self- Contained District Wide 5-12 In-Person Programs who access instruction for virtual general education classes, as indicated on the student’s daily schedule, these general education classes will be accessed remotely from the student’s self-contained classroom.
Related Services Considerations for Virtual Model
Speech
INSTRUCTION: Students will be scheduled according to the IEP as indicated for
individual or group sessions through tele-therapy.
To the greatest extent possible, any group sessions could be
scheduled with up to five students per session.
OT
INSTRUCTION: Students will be scheduled according to the IEP as indicated for
individual or group sessions through tele-therapy.
To the greatest extent possible, any group sessions could be
scheduled with up to five students per session.
PT
INSTRUCTION: Students will be scheduled according to the IEP as indicated for
individual or group sessions through tele-therapy.
To the greatest extent possible, any group sessions could be
scheduled with up to 2 or 3 students per session.
TOD/Hearing/Vision
INSTRUCTION: Students will be scheduled according to the IEP as indicated for
individual or small group sessions through tele-therapy.
Counseling
INSTRUCTION: Students will be scheduled according to the IEP as indicated for
individual or group sessions through tele-therapy.
To the greatest extent possible, any group sessions could bescheduled with up to five students per session.
