10-26-20 Informational Update Regarding Travel and Sports for Families
October 26, 2020
Dear Williamsville Central School District Families and Staff,
The District sent the attached letter to families and staff on Friday, October 23, 2020, upon consultation with the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) regarding sports and travel. The ECDOH issued further guidance on their website today that we wanted to share with you as well.
Their guidance directly states, “The New York State Travel Advisory includes more than 40 states and territories that are currently experiencing a high degree of community transmission of COVID-19. Though that list does not include Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Connecticut, those states do meet the metrics to qualify for inclusion on that list. ECDOH strongly recommends that Erie County residents and youth sports teams avoid travel to those high-risk areas. School districts are able to exclude students and staff from in-school settings based on travel history. Individuals who travel to those states are required to quarantine for 14 days from their last date of travel in those states.”
You can read their full guidance here: https://www2.erie.gov/health/index.php?q=press/erie-county-department-health-answers-questions-about-youth-sports-travel
Please remember if you travel to any of the states and territories that are experiencing high levels of community spread of COVID-19, you need to select “YES” when answering "Have you traveled internationally, or to a state with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 per the New York State Travel Advisory in the past 14 days?" on the COVID-19 Daily Health Screening Questionnaire.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in keeping our school community as healthy and safe as possible.
Dr. John McKenna
Acting Superintendent of Schools
