11-11-20 Yellow, Orange, and Red Zone Video Presentation

November 11, 2020

Dear Williamsville Central School District Families and Staff,

Last night during the Board of Education meeting, the District presented information regarding Yellow, Orange, and Red Micro-Cluster designations. We shared how we are working to meet the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) guidelines and maintain our current hybrid/hyflex models for as long as possible.

To help keep you informed with the most up-to-date information, we have created a new webpage on the District website regarding Yellow, Orange, and Red Micro-Clusters.

On this page you will find guidance from the NYSDOH regarding Yellow, Orange, and Red Micro-Cluster Zones, along with updates and notifications from the District. In addition, the full video presentation from the Board meeting regarding micro-clusters can be viewed here: Yellow, Orange, and Red Micro-Cluster Strategy Video Presentation.

Here is a breakdown of the topics discussed:

00:00-23:20 – Micro-cluster presentation

23:27-24:48 – District seeking clarification on consent to test students following comments from Erie County regarding testing

24:34-25:40 – Testing information regarding Pre-K

25:55-26:56 – Additional testing information regarding non-pub students

27:04-30:43 – Once assigned in a Yellow, Orange, or red Zone, when does random testing begin?

30:44-34:55 – Review of protocols and procedures following a positive case of COVID-19 in our schools.

35:05-40:34 – Is the District allowed to use an outside vendor to help facilitate testing requirements?

40:35-42:47 – Informational update regarding funding for COVID-19 testing.

42:48-46:55 – Is there a deadline for when students have to be tested if they are randomly selected for testing?

47:00-50:20 – Clarification on consent for COVID-19 testing.

50:21-52:02 – Clarification on scheduling COVID-19 testing for elementary school students.

52:13-53:26 – Clarification on identifying the 20% of students and staff that have to be randomly tested.

We know and understand our school community will have more questions as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. We are working to create a Frequently Asked Question document regarding Yellow, Orange, and Red Zone micro-clusters and will be sharing that with you soon.

It is important to remember information and guidelines can change quickly regarding COVID-19.  Our leadership team is in daily contact with the Erie County Department of Health and leaders from around the region to ensure we are understanding and sharing accurate information with you.

We will continue to update you as information becomes available.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Dr. John E. McKenna
Acting Superintendent of Schools
