11-30-20 Orange and Red Zone Testing Update to Families and Staff
November 30, 2020
Dear Williamsville Central School District Families and Staff,
Earlier today, Governor Cuomo announced testing requirement changes for schools in designated Orange Zone and Red Zone micro-clusters.
While we are waiting on additional guidance from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) regarding these changes, we now know that if a school and/or district is in an Orange Zone, they are required to test 20% of the in-person population on a monthly basis. For a Red Zone, 30% of the in-person population is required to be tested on a monthly basis. Full guidance is expected to be shared with school districts over the next few days.
While it is encouraging to know that the testing requirements have been updated to allow for in-person instruction to resume, it is also important to remember we are in the midst of a global pandemic and live in a region where the daily positivity rate of COVID-19 continues to rise. We need to be mindful of community spread and the impact it has had on our school community and staff.
We will continue to share information with you through WITSMail, social media, and on the District’s website as it becomes available.
As always, please continue to be proactive and help slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, social distancing, and following good hygiene practices, such as washing your hands.
Stay safe and healthy.
Dr. John E. McKenna
Acting Superintendent of Schools
