01-28-21 Wrestling & Athletics Update
January 28, 2021
Dear Williamsville Central School District Families and Staff,
Earlier today, the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) issued a joint statement with four other local health departments related to wrestling, which is listed as a “high-risk sport” in the New York Forward Interim Guidance for Sports and Recreation. The local health departments are strongly recommending that interscholastic, intramural, and amateur wrestling teams and leagues “cancel or postpone their winter 2021 seasons to a later date.” You can read the full statement here: Western New York County Health Departments Issue Joint Statement of Wrestling.
Following this recommendation from the ECDOH, Section VI officials have decided to postpone wrestling until the spring season, which is scheduled to take place from May 10, 2021 – June 30, 2021.
Sign-ups for high-risk winter sports, which include basketball and ice hockey, will be available on WITS later this afternoon. Please sign-up as soon as possible. As a reminder, the basketball and ice hockey seasons are scheduled to run from February 1, 2021 – March 27, 2021.
We will continue to update you as more information is available.
If you have any questions regarding your child(ren)’s sport, please contact your child(ren)’s athletic director.
